Controls Engineer – Automation / Robotics

A Controls Engineer is required to join a leading robotics and automation business, supporting the design, programming, development and commissioning of advanced automation systems.

Frontline Recruitment are working with this established business to recruit an experienced Controls Engineer with strong PLC programming, automation and controls experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Controls Engineer, PLC Programmer, Automation Engineer or Electrical Controls Engineer who is looking for a technically challenging role with a strong salary, stability and long-term career development.

The role is primarily office based, working 4 days per week, and will focus on controls development, PLC programming and supporting bespoke automation projects. This would suit someone who enjoys problem solving, developing software, and working within a skilled engineering team.

The Role

As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, programming and supporting automated machinery and robotic systems.

You will work closely with internal engineering teams to design, develop and support robust control systems for industrial automation projects.

Key Responsibilities

• PLC programming and development for automated systems
• Working with Siemens TIA Portal, Step 7 and S7 PLCs
• Programming and fault finding on Rockwell / Allen Bradley PLCs, including Studio 5000 and RSLogix
• HMI programming and modifications, including WinCC and FactoryTalk View
• Supporting commissioning and system testing activities
• Developing and modifying PLC software for bespoke automation systems
• Working with industrial communication protocols including Profinet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT and Profibus
• Supporting motion control, drives and servo systems
• Fault finding and technical problem solving
• Supporting documentation including FDS, FAT and SAT documentation

The Ideal Candidate

We are keen to speak with engineers from an automation integrator, robotics, machine tool, special purpose machinery and or industrial automation background.

You may currently be working as a:

• Controls Engineer
• PLC Programmer
• Automation Engineer
• Electrical Controls Engineer
• Software Controls Engineer
• Commissioning Engineer
• Electrical Design and Controls Engineer

Experience Required

• Strong experience with Siemens TIA Portal
• Experience with Rockwell / Allen Bradley PLCs, Studio 5000 and RSLogix
• PLC programming and fault-finding experience
• HMI development and modification experience
• Experience within industrial automation or special purpose machinery
• Understanding of industrial communication protocols
• Strong problem-solving ability and technical mindset
• Experience supporting or commissioning automated systems

Desirable Experience

• Robotics experience, including KUKA, ABB or Fanuc
• Motion control and servo systems
• Safety PLCs and machine safety systems
• Machine tool or CNC automation experience
• Vision systems, including Cognex or Keyence
