As we are expecting a heat wave this week, we thought to share some tips on how to work safely during the heat.

Pace your workload

By pacing your workload throughout the day will help you keep calm, and you will not over exert yourself.

Avoid dehydrating drinks

Drinks like coffee, tea, or any other soft drink are not as hydrating as water, therefore by keeping a bottle of water with you at all times to stay hydrated.

Wear protective clothing

Lightweight, light-coloured and loose-fitting clothing helps protect against heat.

Use fans at work

If you work in an office, using a fan or a desk sized fan helps the air in the office break up and this cools you down.

Protect yourself from the sun

If you work outside, make sure that you wear sunscreen, and protect your head from the direct sunlight by wearing a hat.

Overall enjoy the weather and stay safe

We all want to enjoy the sunny weather while we can, but it is important to stay cool and hydrated. Ensure that you drink lots of water, wear appropriate clothing and avoid the sun at peak times. If you think you are experiencing heat stroke or heat exhaustion please seek some medical advice.
